Black Veil Brides' Biography
Black Veil Brides (BVB) is an American rock band, originally called Brides. The lineup was: Andy Six, Johnny Herold, Nate Shipp, Chris Riesenberg and Phil Cenedella. The band has had different members until they recorded We Stitch These Wounds with Andy Six, Ashley Purdy, Jake Pitts, Jinxx and Sandra Alvarenga. Then Sandra left in 2010 to join the band Modern Day Escape and the current drummer, Christian Coma, replaced her. Andy is the original member left in the band.
Since the band started, they have been compared to bands like Scorpions, Mötley Crue and KISS, because of the music they made, their make-up and clothing.
In 2006, Andy Six was 15 years old. He started to look for members to create a "modern" heavy metal band.
In 2007, they recorded their first EP: Sex & Hollywood.
After various changes in the lineup, in 2009, Andy met drummer Sandra and she joined the band. They filmed a video for the song "Knives And Pens". The video got many visits on YouTube. After this, Andy contacted Ashley Purdy through Internet and he joined the band. Later, guitarist Jinxx joined. Then he recommended Jake Pitts to be the guitarist in the band.
In September 2009, the band singed with StandBy Records. In December 2009, they went on their first tour in the United States: On Leather Wings Tour.
About the name of the band, Ashley said: "Black Veil Brides is a Roman Catholic term used for when a woman marries into the church and gives up all the pleasures of life to devote her life to God. She is then deemed a Black Veil Bride. Sorta' similar to a Rock band where you have to give up many things in pursuit of what you're passionate about or believe in. It also has the dichotomy of the positive and negative. The happiest time in one's life, could be getting married. And the opposite of that in one's life would be at a funeral of a loved one. It all tends to fit really well for a dark and heavy rock band.
In September 2010, in Black Veil Brides' My Space, they announced the departure of Sandra: "Sandra has expressed to us a need to move on with her musical career and follow new paths. Over time her interests have changed musically from that of the direction BVB is moving in and has decided to explore all that she can to those means. We've had many discussions about this leading up to her departing and tried to find ways to make it work, but we just both decided to move on amicably and support each other in our musical adventures. This of course found all of us in Black Veil Brides forced to then make a choice". They also said who the new drummer was going to be.
In February 2011, Black Veil Brides supported Murderdolls in the "God Save The Scream Tour" and toured America on the AP Tour from March 18 to May 6.
In April, Andy announced that he has reverted back to using his real surname: Biersack. "It's not necessarily like I'm trying to abolish the name Andy Six. I don't mind if people call me that as it's always been a nickname. The name was always like a defense mechanism when I was a kid, but I no longer have to hide behind that. I'm very happy with who I am and what I've created".
They recorded Set The World On Fire on Lava Records, in California, with Josh Abraham, who's previously worked with bands like Linkin Park, 30 Seconds To Mars, Korn... Andy said to Billboard magazine: "Everything is bigger, more songs, more vocals, more melodies. And it all came naturally; it's not an attempt to try to outdo our first record, but we wanted to show how we had naturally grown as a band and as songwriters".
On June 18, Andy fractured three ribs when he fell from a balcony during a show at the Hollywood and Highland shopping mall.
On October 23, in a show in Luxembourg, Andy broke his nose. The band was forced to cancel some shows in the UK.
On December 13, the same day that they released their new EP "Rebels", Andy was named one of the "100 Greatest Living Rock Stars" by Revolver magazine.
Black Veil Brides has recorded an exclusive song that would be included on the Avengers Assemble's album, The Avengers' soundtrack.
In May 2012, they announced that their new album will be released on October 30.
In June, Andy talked about their third record for NME: "We've got three songs tracked and 20 to 25 written. John Feldmann is producing it. It's going to be more of a punk rock record than anything we've done before... We've got a title, we've got a story. It's a bit of concept record, there's a very serious story behind it. It's full of surprises".
